As wonderful as the winter season can be with all the holiday spirit, it can also be the most germ and virus filled time of the year.

The flu is ranked among the top 10 leading causes of death in Canada.
The government of Canada announced in 2016 that on average each year in Canada the flu causes:

  • 12,200 hospital stays
  • 3,500 deaths

People who are at a higher risk are those with health conditions, those 65 years and older, those living in nursing home or long-term facilities, pregnant women, and children under 5 years of age.

How to Avoid the Flu?

1. Become passionate about washing your hands.

A University of Michigan study confirmed that constant washing of your hands reduced the transmission of the flu virus by more than 20%.

 2. Teach your children how to accurately wash their hands.

Enforcing the importance of hand washing will not only protect your child but your entire family.
