The Next Step – The 2nd Wave?
- On May 1, 2020
What Are The Current Stats?
There are currently more than 3 million COVID-19 cases globally and Canada currently has more than 50,000 confirmed cases. Throughout this, various countries have had varying numbers of confirmed cases and they have all dealt with it differently. South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore have been praised for how many people they have tested, recovered, and their overall action to combat covid19. But, one country that has not been mentioned and stands alone, is Vietnam. Vietnam has only had 270 cases confirmed to date, 5 hospitalizations, no ICU visits and MOST importantly, NO deaths.
What Happened In Vietnam?
Vietnam has a population of around 96 million people and they border China. This is nearly three times as much as Canada. So, begs the question, how have they managed to only record 270 confirmed cases of covid19. Vietnam has been doing aggressive mass testing, as well as taking proper and efficient social distancing measures. The most important notes to take away from what Vietnam did are, they acted fast (mass testing after their first two cases) and their population has followed their social distancing rules to a tee! Because of how well they have managed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, they will be able to open their economy faster than anyone else in the world and with a LOT less risk.
A Second Wave?
There are many different opinions on how early Canada should “reopen” the economy. Many think it should be done soon and others are the complete opposite as they are worried about the second wave of COVID-19 cases. To avoid all of this, Canadians need to practice proper disinfection measures, as well as still maintain social distancing. There is one thing that WILL not change throughout reopening and further down the road: businesses will need to make sure their spaces are properly disinfected to prevent the spreading of harmful germs and bacteria.
