So you are getting ready for Christmas!

As we come to the end of November and folks realize that there are only about 3 weeks till Christmas that can be when the panic can set in, but also a moment when the good times begin. The season can be hectic as there is so much to do, shopping, baking, party planning, get-togethers, meeting friends for a cocktail, and so on. With all that one can find themselves burning the candle at both ends and while you think you may be good at handling all of the double duties your body may not.
You need to take time to relax and ensure you are getting some rest – at least about 6 hours per day. When you deprive your body of rest it begins to shut down to conserve and store energy – one of the first things to weaken is your immune system. We all know what happens when your immune system stops doing its job!
Christmas can be stressful and when you are under stress that raises the level of a chemical in the body called Cortisol. Cortisol increases play havoc on your immune system which leaves you open for germs to break into your life. Exercising can also help to reduce stress in your life.
As you are in the middle of the “Party” season make sure you are eating some wholesome foods including fresh fruit and vegetables which are packed with essential vitamins and minerals to help counterbalance all the rich, fatty foods we tend to overindulge on this time of year. This can help keep your engine running smooth and healthy. Please also be aware and cautious when eating foods that others may have touched with their hands on the Christmas buffet.
Lastly, at this time of year, there is contact with others – hugging, handshaking, and a peck under the mistletoe all can spread the germs to you and get them passed onto others. Avoid it as much as you can but make sure you wash your hands often to fight it all off.
Make merry but stay healthy, happy, full of joy, but void of germs!
