Spotless for Summer Roads – 9 Steps for the Best Car Interior Clean
- On July 14, 2022
Summer is the perfect time for road trips, camping trips, drive-ins, etc. All these fun activities have one thing in common: your car.
Your car will be going through a lot this summer and it’ll show both outside and inside. Even though your vehicle’s exterior seems the most visible, it doesn’t mean it’s the only area you should focus on. With that in mind, let’s take care of your car with some high-class summer cleaning.
The following 9 steps will have your roadster looking like the day you bought it for those summer carpools!
Before you start, we recommend following these steps on an early, sunny morning to save you from the worst of the day’s heat. It’s important to stay out of the harsh sunlight when washing your car this summer to avoid the appearance of streaks and swirls.
Step 1: Take the time to empty all the garbage, debris, or junk within every compartment including those on all the sides of the car doors and glove box. Be sure to take those water bottles and forgotten Tupperware containers out too to wash them! If the garbage seems to pile up in your car, we recommend sticking a trash can or bag in your car for convenient cleanup.
Step 2: Organize your glove compartment, middle console, and other storage spaces. Ensure all the essential car paperwork is easily accessible along with any other important objects to prevent time wasted and distraction while driving.
Step 3: Using a microfibre cloth and the cleaner of your choice, wipe down areas in your car’s interior like your dashboard, cup holders, and top and rear-view mirrors. For surfaces like these, we recommend our All-Purpose Cleaner.
Step 4: Use a disinfectant wipe to get rid of any harmful germs on any high touch points in your car. These are essentially any surfaces used a lot by passengers and drivers. These aren’t limited to but include;
- Door Handles
- Trunk Handle
- Seatbelts
- Gear Shifter
- Steering Wheel (we hope this one is used a lot!)
- Radio Buttons
Step 5: Remove all your floor mats and vacuum everywhere. Spending more time outdoors in the summer calls for beach sand and soil which can run down your carpets if not taken care of. Start with the crumbs residing underneath your car seats, then thoroughly clean any narrow crevices where dirt could be hiding. The trunk needs love too! Don’t exclude it in your vacuuming.
Then, wash your mats if they are dirty. You can do this by using a Fabric Cleaner and microfibre cloth to scrub off all the dirt. Ensure they are fully dry before putting the mats back into your car.
Keep an eye out for those stains from spilled drinks and sauces. Not only do your consoles and cupholders go through a lot, but so do your carpets! To prevent mold and bacteria from forming around it, use a Stain Remover!
Step 6: Use an All-Purpose Cleaner or our Multipurpose Cleaner with a cloth to wipe down steering wheels, doors, dashboards, etc. We highly recommend using Q-tips to clean those small, hard-to-reach areas that might be difficult to access with the former.
Step 7: Thoroughly wash your windows and mirrors with our all-purpose cleaner. On top of that, to prevent the windows from fogging up, apply some shaving cream, then wipe it with a gentle and dry cloth.
Step 8: Use either Leather Cleaner or Fabric Cleaner on car seats depending on the material and wipe with a microfibre cloth.
Step 9: Put a car freshener on your air vent or put a few drops of essential oil under your floor mats to keep the scent fresh! No matter how old it is, it’ll still have that new car smell everyone loves!
After you’re all finished the deep interior cleaning of your vehicle, it’s time to wash the exterior to make it shine and sparkle! Head over to your nearest gas station and pamper your car with the best car wash out there. It’s deserved it!
Enjoy the good times summer has to offer you in your new clean car!
