Rank and File | Decluttering

First, we’ll start by removing everything from the car: trash, personal belongings and any loose items in the compartments, it’s all getting taken out. Sort these items into categories like trash, items to keep, items to relocate, and items to donate or discard.

Gloves are on | Trash Removal:

Put those cleaning gloves on because we’re getting down to business. Using our trash bags or bins we’re going to dispose of all trash and unnecessary items. Go gather up those pesky old tissues, takeout containers, and wrappers; it’s time to go! Use a vacuum cleaner with a crevice attachment to clean out crumbs and debris from between seats and in hard-to-reach areas.

Fighting dirty | Spot Cleaning:

Next, use an all-purpose cleaner or car interior cleaner to spot-clean any stains or spills on the seats, carpets, and upholstery. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the cleaner and test it on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility with the material.

Throwing in the towel | Microfiber Towels for Interior Surfaces:

Then, using either a microfiber cloth, or cleaning wipes, wipe down the interior surfaces like the dashboard, steering wheel, door panels, and center console. Microfiber towels and cleaning wipes are gentle on surfaces and trap dirt and dust effectively, without damaging the material.

Suck it up and move on | Vacuuming:

Vacuum the entire interior of the car, including seats, carpets, floor mats, and trunk. Make sure to get any of the leftover baking soda you poured earlier. Use the appropriate attachments to reach tight spaces and crevices, when necessary. Consider using a detailing vacuum with specialized attachments for cleaning carpets and upholstery. These attachments are designed to agitate the fabric and remove embedded dirt and debris more effectively than a standard vacuum.

Avengers Reassemble! | Organize and Reassemble:

Organize items that you’re keeping back into the car, using organizers or compartments as needed. Make sure to place the most frequently used items easily within read, and store items you don’t use as often in the trunk or other storage areas. This will result in less tearing apart your car, scavenging to find things, and less free clutter roaming around.

Wipe the floor with your enemies (cleaning cloth)| Clean Floor Mats Separately:

Next, remove the floor mats from the car to clean them separately. Using a stiff brush, loosen dirt and debris then rinse the mats off with water and allow them to air dry completely before placing them back in the car.

Let off steam | Steam Clean for Upholstery:

While the mats are still out of the car, consider using a handheld steam cleaner to deep clean upholstery and carpeting. The steam helps to loosen dirt and stains, making them easier to remove.

Clean Fight | Window Cleaning:

Using your window cleaner, spray the interior surfaces of the windows and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints, smudges, and dirt. Then, use a separate cloth or paper towel to clean the exterior surfaces of the windows, to vanquish that long built-up dirt on your outer windows.

Keep the powder dry | Freshening Up:

To eliminate odours, consider using a car air freshener or placing an open box of baking soda in the car overnight to absorb odours. You can also sprinkle baking soda on carpets and upholstery, and let it sit for a few hours.
