What is “Dwell Time” and Why Does it Matter?

Dwell time is the amount of time a surface must remain visibly wet with a disinfectant product for the kill claim to be achieved. If the surface dries before the required dwell time has elapsed, the disinfection is incomplete regardless of the product used. Selecting a wipe with a dwell time that matches real facility conditions is one of the most important and most frequently overlooked decisions in commercial disinfection procurement.
