Harmful Germs are Everywhere!

It is inevitable that you will come into contact with germs everywhere you go. For many people, their homes are their safeguard for their families and the guests that come over. 

However, the one thing that a house does not fully protect them from is harmful germs. And the worst spots are not always in the areas that you would expect.

They can inhabit places or household objects you may not suspect are germ hotspots. These can be quite dangerous if they’re not regularly and properly disinfected.

And the team at Roxton Industries have put together a list for you to read through. With this information, you can remember to thoroughly disinfect the following five everyday items that many people come into contact with in their house and ensure your home remains your safeguard.

5) Coffee Makers: For all the avid coffee drinkers out there that rush in the mornings and forget to clean your pot, here’s something you might want to consider and that you might find surprising. The dark and damp reservoirs of coffee makers make it a perfect home for harmful bacteria to grow. 50% of these reservoirs showed signs of mold and yeast.

Cleaning Tip: While many people suggest using vinegar and run it through, this in fact does not kill the germs, though it does help. Alternatively, to fully disinfect it and get rid of germs, thoroughly go over it with a disinfectant wipe.

4) Pet Bowls: This might shock pet owners, but 45 % of food and water bowls contained mold and 18% contained potentially harmful bacteria.

Cleaning Tip: Put your pet bowls in the dishwasher, if they can be safely used in them, or hand wash them and then use an alcohol-free and bleach-free disinfectant wipe to ensure the harmful bacteria has been killed and it is safe for your pet to eat from.

3) Toothbrush Holders: This one is a pretty gross discovery as a whopping 64% of toothbrush holders had mold and 27% contained harmful bacteria. You’ll want to keep this clean for sure!

Cleaning Tip: If it is dishwasher safe, put it in there. If it is not, use soap and water and do it the good old-fashioned way; by hand. After, it is imperative you wipe it down to disinfect it before using it again.

2) Kitchen sinks: Much like a dishwasher where lots of dirty dishes are stored, 45% of sinks in people’s houses contained harmful bacteria and 27% of them contained mold.

Cleaning Tip: Thoroughly clean the sides and bottom of the sink at least three times a week to get rid of any germs or harmful bacteria.

1) Dish sponges/rags: Coming in at number 1 in household germ hotspots are dish sponges/rags. These are, ironically, the “germiest” items in your home. That’s right; the thing used to clean a lot of your dirty items has the most germs because of that. Due to buildup, 77% of those sponges and rags contained harmful germs and another 86% contained mold and yeast.

To make things worse, 18% contained Staph bacteria, which can cause some serious infections.

Cleaning Tip: Microwave wet sponges at least once a day for around one and a half minutes in an attempt to kill potentially harmful bacteria. Also, you should constantly be replacing these sponges and rags to prevent germ buildup over time.

With this information in mind, you can now take several more steps towards ensuring your house is germ-free for visitors and yourselves.
